AC Servo Motor and Drive Systems

Electromate's primary provider of AC servo motor with drive systems is Kollmorgen. These systems provide various electronic motor drives with advanced control technology, multiple fieldbus connectivity options, and control interfaces. There are a broad selection of servo drives with a range of input voltages and output power levels.

The drive technology is enhanced when used with both the motor designs and automation controllers. Configuration and programming software is integrated with drive and motor combinations.

The drives are also versatile, and can run a broad range of standard and specialty motors with various feedback types.

Kollmorgen drives adapt to changing technology, and many integrate directly with safety solutions to meet new machine safety directives.

Kollmorgen servo drives are used for dynamic motion applications where precise positioning, speed control, or torque efficiency is key. The servo drives range from 300 watts to 50,000 watts of continuous duty power output. Peak outputs servo drives are impressive, with peak operation at 3 times the rated continuous current for a full 5 seconds in certain drives.

This is a clear advantage since many manufacturers can only rate peak operation at 1 second or less. It allows many applications to use significantly smaller servo drives and expands the dynamic performance of the servo drive lineup.

Connectivity is a key aspect in machines, so fieldbus options are plentiful. Kollmorgen support many popular ethernet fieldbuses like EtherCAT, Ethernet /IP, Profinet, and SynqNet. Support for traditional fieldbuses is available on certain models as well, including Profibus, Devicenet, CanOpen, RS485, RS232, Sercos and Sercos III.

Kollmorgen's MOTIONEERING Application Engine:

To assist with sizing and selection of an AC Servo Motor + Drive System, Kollmorgen released the MOTIONEERING® Application Engine 6.4.0 – a free premier motion sizing and selection software. Using a mechanism project concept for collecting and saving multiple axes of load information, MOTIONEERING® can automatically calculate application results and compare against a database catalog of systems.

The MOTIONEERING® software sizing engine has the flexibility to sum the effects of multiple axes of motion for power supply and shunt regeneration sizing (rotary applications only). Versatile units-of-measure selection options for mechanism and motion profile data-entry, with the ability to convert data into other available units, makes this a convenient international tool. A user-friendly Help file teaches program functions and algorithms used to provide results.

AC Motors we Provide:

AKM Series

Kollmorgen's brushless servomotors offer the highest torque/inertia ratio over a broad range of speeds—including high speed capabilities up to 8,000 rpm for standard designs and up to 70,000 rpm for special designs.

Direct Drive Series

Kollmorgen pioneered the development of direct drive technology. Today, our Direct Drive Rotary (DDR) and Direct Drive Linear (DDL) motors bring you industry-leading performance, zero maintenance, clean mechanical assembly, improved accuracy, higher throughput, better reliability, and smooth, quiet operation.

Drive Systems we Provide:

AKD Series

Kollmorgen designed their next-generation AKD™ Series with the versatility, communications, power and bandwidth you need to build higher throughput, greater precision and more capable features into your machine—and to bring it to market faster.

AKD PDMM® Programmable Drive, Multi-Axis Master Series

The AKD PDMM™ provides an integrated servo drive and automation controller. It combines one AKD servo axis, a master controller that supports up to seven or more additional axes, and the full automation capability of Kollmorgen Automation Suite™ in a single, compact package.

AKD BASIC Programmable Drive Series

AKD BASIC drives provide all the performance features of our leading AKD Series, along with built-in machine and motion control that can be programmed in BASIC programming language from Kollmorgen's AKD WorkBench. These drives can eliminate the need for a separate PLC or allow machine designers to customize drive functionality.

S200 and S200-DLS Series

S200 servo drives are the first series of all-digital industrial drives with a velocity loop bandwidth of 800 Hz, offering plug-and-play commissioning, simplified tuning and unmatched performance in a small package.

The S200-DLS Series provides all the features and benefits of our standard S200 Series servo drives, and adds a Digital Link interface module, providing connectivity to the MMC Smart Drive and the Digital MMC family of controls.

S300 Series

These compact, easy-to-use servo drives operate directly from grounded 115 to 480VAC, 3-phase, 50-60Hz lines and provide output current of 1.5 to 10 Amps RMS/phase, continuous, for driving Kollmorgen brushless rotary servomotors and linear positioners.

S700 Series

The S700 is a digital servo drive with extended functionality to support complex drive tasks. It operates from 110 to 480 VAC, 1 or 3-phase, 50 to 60 Hz lines, and features integrated Ethernet connectivity for use with EtherCAT® and SynqNet™.
