There are a number of benefits when choosing a direct drive frameless motor (also known as frameless torque motors). The direct load connection eliminates maintenance of gearboxes, belts, or pulleys. You'll also get zero backlash, and compliance provides more responsive system performance. It eliminates coupling devices which in turn reducies the overall machine size. EC Frameless Motors by maxon

Frameless motor kits offer high torque density and space-saving integration. It consists of only a rotor and stator – with no bearings or motorshaft. With outer diameters of only 43 to 90 mm, they are extremely compact.


The TBM frameless motor is a new series of direct drive torque motors designed for applications that require high power in a small compact form factor with minimized weight, and inertia.  Typical applications include robotic joints, weapon stations, sensor gimbals, sight systems, UAV propulsion and guidance, as well as many others.

The KBM™ Series, from Kollmorgen, is designed to be directly embedded in your machine, using the machine's own bearings to support the rotor. The KBM™ series offers high performance, long life and simple installation in a motor kit that can be embedded directly in your machine design.

QTL Torque Motor Series by Tecnotion  

Tecnotion's largest torque motors to date. Very compact and thus a high torque density. The QTL is frameless and therefore it can be integrated directly into the machine structure, while the spacious open inner diameter enables wire and cable feedthrough. The series are suitable for a variety of markets. The QTL-A motor series comes in four diameters (210-230-290-310 mm) and three heights (65-85-105 mm). They are available with (QTL 230 and 310) or without cooling (QTL 210 and 290).


QTR Torque Motor Series by Tecnotion  

The QTR series suits applications in markets such as semiconductor, medical, machine tool, printing, rotary tables, factory automation, and robotics. Besr used wherever a rotary movement is required. Offers numerous advantages over conventional servo drives.


The ADR-P are Akribis' series of frameless motors. They have the same electromagnetic design as the ADR-A and ADR-B, and have a high slot fill factor and low cogging torque. Customers can design their own mechanical design based on the demand. Features include a permanent magnet synchronous motor, low cogging torque, and suitable for both low speed and high speed applications.

Celera Motion/Applimotion manufactures a full family of Direct Drive Frameless Motors including permanent magnet three-phase ring type, low profile, and direct drive motors with large through hole. There are four types to choose from: ULT Series: easy to use general purpose motors from 45-165 diameters. UTH Series: high output motors from 29-533 mm diameters. UTS Series: slotless motors for the smoothest motion 29-240 mm diameters. UTO Series: outside rotating motors for hub-centeric applications, 20-200 mm diameters.
