Harmonic Planetary gears have simultaneous meshing between the sun gear and planet gears and between the planet gears and the internal gear. The sun gear is connected to the motor and a carrier, supporting the planet gears, is connected to the output. Single stage planetary gears can achieve reduction ratios up to 10:1. Ratios above 10:1 utilize a two stage design where the carrier of the first stage drives the sun gear of the second planetary stage.

Gearing products (components or housed gearboxes) are mechanical devices used to increase the output torque or change the speed (RPM) of a motor. They are also used for inertia matching between a load and a motor. The most common type of gearing product is a gearbox (or housed gearhead).
Most gearboxes are constructed from steel materials such as iron, aluminum and brass, however spur gearboxes can also be made with plastics such as polycarbonate or nylon. The orientation of the gear teeth plays a major role in the overall efficiency, torque and speed of the system. Straight gear teeth gearboxes are typically used in low-speed applications. These gearboxes can be noisy, and usually have lower overall efficiency. Helical gearboxes are typically used in high-speed applications...Categories: Technical Support - Posted: May 29, 2014

What are the advantages of hypoid gearing?
Conventional spiral bevel gearing, meshing in the position shown at the bottom of the drawing, has a purely rolling meshing action that is mechanically very efficient. Its drawback is that it offers the smallest total tooth contact area, so its torque throughput capacity is lower. Single-stage spiral bevel gearing is limited to about a 6:1 reduction ratio. It’s easy to get higher ratios with multiple-stage configurations, but the additional gear stage lowers mechanical efficiency, increases backlash, consumes space and weight and reduces reliability.Conventional worm gearing, meshing in the position shown at the top of the drawing, has a very high total tooth contact area. While it offers high torque throughput and high ratio reduction, worm gearing has the lowest mechanical efficiency, due to the friction generated by its high component of sliding action. ...Categories: Technical Support
