AMP Microstepper Drivers

Step motors are commonly driven by microstepping drives. A Microstep Driver applies power to the appropriate step motor winding to produce torque. It precisely divides the current between the motor phases thus positioning the step motor at smaller increments between full steps. It provides higher resolution but with less torque. Microstepping does not increase step accuracy, but will allow a motor to run with less noise, minimize low speed resonance effects and produce smooth rotation over a wide speed range. Microstepping is commonly used to increase a motor's resolution. The degree of the improvement depends on the step accuracy of the motor. Microstep motor drives offer unparalleled performance for today's modern machine builders. Common to most microstep driver models are the following multiple control options, including: 

  • "S" drives for basic applications such as step & direction or velocity mode
  • "Plus" drives for stand-alone Q programming with limited I/O
  • "Q" drives for stand-alone Q programming with more I/O and options for encoder feedback, RS-485, and Ethernet UDP & TCP communications
  • "Si" drives for stand-alone Si programming and optional encoder feedback
  • "C" drives for use as slave nodes on CANopen networks, with or without encoder feedback
  • "IP" drives for use in EtherNet/IP communication networks, with full Q programming capabilities and optional encoder feedback
