Linear Motion Systems

Linear Motion Systems are a cornerstone of engineering and automation, playing a critical role in enabling precise control and movement across various applications. These systems are integral to the functionality of equipment in numerous industries, facilitating accuracy and efficiency in processes.

Together, these components form the backbone of linear motion systems, underscoring their importance in a wide range of applications. From manufacturing and assembly lines to medical devices and scientific research, the precision and reliability offered by these systems are indispensable. Their ability to provide controlled and accurate movement makes them a key element in the advancement of technology and industry.

Linear Motion Systems by Type:

Linear Rails

At the heart of these systems are rails, which provide a stable pathway for movement. Rails are designed to bear loads and offer structural support, ensuring that the moving components of the system can operate smoothly and reliably. Their robust construction is key to the longevity and reliability of the entire linear motion system.

Linear Bearings & Recirculating Units

Bearings and recirculating units play a pivotal role in reducing friction between moving parts. These components are designed to facilitate smooth and efficient motion, minimizing wear and tear on the system. Bearings, in particular, are critical for sustaining the load and enabling the free movement of parts within the system.

Linear Motion Structures

Linear motion structures, such as slides, tables, and stages, provide the platforms necessary for accurate positioning. These elements are versatile and can be customized to meet the specific requirements of various applications. They are the interface on which the actual work pieces or tools are mounted, enabling precise control over their movement.

Linear Shafting & Support

Linear shafting and support elements are integral to maintaining the alignment of the system. They ensure that the moving parts remain in the correct orientation, enhancing the overall integrity and performance of the system. Proper alignment is essential for achieving the desired precision in motion.

Linear Mounting & Alignment Components

Mounting and alignment components are crucial for the assembly and optimization of the system's performance. These components enable the secure installation of the system and ensure that all parts are correctly aligned. Proper mounting and alignment are essential for the system to function as intended, maximizing efficiency and minimizing the risk of errors.

Four Primary Bearings Used in Linear Motion Systems:

Cross Roller Linear Bearings

Feature cylindrical rollers with ground "V" ways. The larger surface contact between the rollers & "V" ways typically increases the table load capacity by up to 3 times more over a comparable ball & rod type system.

Produce better flatness and straightness specifications over traditional ball & rod type systems. Used in higher accuracy type of applications.

Round Rail Linear Bearings

Use four bushings with recirculating ball bearings which are mounted within either two, or four pillow blocks (aluminum or steel housings). Produces a very low friction positioning table.

This table design provides long travel lengths, good load capacities, large moment load capacities, and can accommodate protective cover plates & waycovers.

Square Rail Bearing Systems

Similar in operation to the round rail systems. The recirculating ball bearings in the bearing block contact more surface area on the curved ball race on the square rail.

Has better flatness & straightness specifications than a round rail system. Able to handle shock & vibration forces better than a round rail system.

Air Bearing Linear Tables

Creates a small air cushion between the table carriage and the table base (guide rail). This provides a non-contact linear bearing system that is rigid, friction free, and cog-free.

Using a very accurate guide rail (rectangular or square) can produce excellent flatness & straightness specifications. Drive mechanisms include high accuracy acme screws and linear motors.
