Positioning and Speed Controllers for Micro Motors
When more than just speed and torque control is required and recurring positioning processes with complex trajectories have to be executed, use maxon positioning controllers. Maxon position controllers feature CANopen or EtherCAT connectivity, so setting up a distributed control network is easy. All maxon motor speed and position controls are specially designed for DC and EC motors with encoders up to 750 Watt continuous output power.
maxon EPOS Series:
EPOS controllers are designed for ease of programming, adhering to the IEC 61131-3 standard, which ensures compatibility and flexibility for various applications. These controllers allow users to create self-compiled programs that can autonomously manage both single and multiple-axis systems, coordinating movements simultaneously.
EPOS Product Range:
EPOS2, EPOS2-P and EPOS4 Controllers: These modular controllers are compatible with all maxon DC brushed and brushless motors, providing a versatile solution for various motion control applications. EPOS4, the latest generation, replaces EPOS3, which is no longer recommended for new designs. View the EPOS4 comparison chart.
MAXPOS Controllers: The newest addition to maxon’s range, MAXPOS controllers offer even higher performance for advanced positioning tasks.
EPOS Studio: A powerful tool offering multiple editors (ST, IL, FBD, LD, SFC) for programming according to IEC 61131-3. The integrated project browser simplifies the management of complex programs, enabling efficient control of systems with decentralized controls.
Configuration Wizards: EPOS controllers can be quickly configured and networked using intelligent step-by-step wizards, streamlining the process for drive system setup and integration. This structure optimizes the controller programming process and supports the efficient operation of sophisticated motor systems.

maxon ESCON Series:
ESCON servo controllers from Maxon are small-sized, powerful 4-quadrant PWM servo controllers for the highly efficient control of permanent magnet-activated brush and brushless DC motors.
The featured operating modes – speed control (closed loop), speed control (open loop), and current control – meet the highest requirements.
The ESCON servo controllers are designed being commanded by an analog set value and features extensive analog and digital I/O functionality and are being configured via USB interface using the graphical user interface ESCON Studio for Windows PCs.
High PWM Frequency: The ESCON controllers operate with a high Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) frequency, reducing motor losses and ensuring smooth, efficient motor performance even at low speeds.
Closed-Loop Speed Control: Utilizing a PID-based control algorithm, the ESCON series provides closed-loop speed control with high accuracy and minimal speed ripple, making it ideal for applications requiring precise motor behavior.
Advanced Current Limitation: The controllers feature precise current limitation settings, protecting both the motor and the drive from overcurrent conditions while enabling high dynamic response.
Versatile Feedback Compatibility: Supports various feedback systems, including analog Hall sensors, digital Hall sensors, and incremental encoders, allowing for flexible integration with a wide range of motor types.
Adjustable Bandwidth: The ESCON controllers allow for the adjustment of control bandwidth to fine-tune motor response characteristics, optimizing performance for specific application needs.
Wide Supply Voltage Range: Compatible with a wide input voltage range, typically from 10 V to 50 V, making these controllers suitable for diverse applications and environments.
Efficient Thermal Management: Equipped with advanced thermal management systems, including overtemperature protection, the ESCON controllers maintain optimal performance even under high load conditions.
Integrated Protection Features: Comprehensive protection mechanisms are included, such as overcurrent, undervoltage, overvoltage, and short circuit protection, ensuring reliable operation in critical applications.
Dynamic Braking and Regenerative Energy Handling: The controllers are designed to handle regenerative energy effectively, supporting dynamic braking functions and enhancing overall system efficiency.
