Pancake/Flat Servo Motors

Pancake or Flat Motors are available from maxon. Electromate supplies maxon brushless pancake motors throughout Canada’s four distinct industrial regions: the Atlantic Provinces, Central Canada, the Prairies, and the West Coast.

When space is at a premium, maxon Brushless Pancake Motors are the solution.

The electronically commutated maxon EC flat motors are particularly noteworthy for their excellent torque handling characteristics, high performance, extremely wide speed range and, of course, their unsurpassed service life.

These compact and extremely powerful EC flat motors are ideal if space is limited. With an operating range of 0.2 - 600 Watt, the EC Flat Motor Series are external rotor motors that run very quietly.

Maxon pancake motors are designed for durability and efficient performance in space-constrained environments, thanks to their flat design. These motors are characterized by a comparatively high inertia, making them suitable for applications that demand stability and consistent performance. Their motor characteristics may deviate from strongly linear behavior, offering versatility in various scenarios.

Equipped with Hall sensors, these motors enable simple speed and position control. The winding with an iron core and several teeth per phase in the stator contributes to their efficiency. They also feature a low detent torque and good heat dissipation, ensuring smooth operation and a high overload capacity.

The incorporation of multipole Neodymium permanent magnets enhances their power, while the smaller commutation steps allow for precise control, making Maxon pancake motors a reliable choice for a wide range of applications.

EC vs EC-i Comparison Chart

  Watts Diameter Range Characteristics
EC Pancake Motor

Ø 9.2, 14, 20, 32, 45, 60, and 90 mm

0.5 - 600 W

  • Attractive price/performance ratio
  • High torques due to external, multipole rotor
  • Excellent heat dissipation at higher speeds thanks to open design
EC-I Pancake Motor
Ø 30, 40, and 52 mm

20 - 200 W

  • Highly dynamic due to internal, multipole rotor
  • Mechanical time constants below 3 ms
  • High torque density
  • Speeds of up to 15 000 rpm
  • Simple operation with DC voltage
  • Fewer connections than with the EC motor
  • No additional electronics required
  • Output power reductions possible due to less space for power electronics
  • High-powered models are also available for the EC-I. Please inquire for more information
